Harry S. Moss Heart Trust

OVERVIEW: The Harry S. Moss Heart Trust supports heart disease-related medical research for prevention and cures in Texas, particularly Dallas.

IP TAKE: Rather than funding individual scientific researchers, this trust supports medical centers and heart disease-related nonprofits in the Dallas area.

PROFILE: Established in 1973, the Harry S. Moss Heart Trust is a foundation with a medical focus in the state of Texas. Harry S. Moss established this trust in his will and directed that funds be paid to organizations whose “main purpose and object is the prevention and cure of diseases of the heart.” A Dallas resident and civic leader for 45 years, Moss also served as the president of Moss Petroleum company and was involved with many other boards, businesses, and institutions locally. Though Moss passed away in 1970, additional funds were added to the trust when his wife, Florence, passed away in 1978. Managed by Bank of America’s Texas office, grantmaking supports medical research and heart disease.

Grants for Public Health and Access, and Science Research

After having suffered a heart attack in the 1960s, Harry Moss dedicated himself to medical research philanthropy. The trust now supports research aimed at preventing heart disease and curing heart-related medical issues. The trust provides funds to both charitable nonprofits and for scientific research.

Past grantees include the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Methodist Health System Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Greater Dallas Chapter, and Children's Medical Center Foundation.
