OVERVIEW: Impact SA is a women’s collective giving foundation that serves the Greater San Antonio area and focuses on art and culture, education, environment, recreation and preservation, family, and health and wellness.

PROFILE: Established in 2004, Impact SA is a collective women’s giving circle that involves over 600 women. The foundation pools $1,000 donations from its members to award grants locally. Kelly Hutchinson founded Impact SA with 25 women, and the group began awarding $100,000 grants in 2008. The funder “encourages and empowers women to join together to achieve meaningful change in the Greater San Antonio area through substantial grants to local nonprofits that serve our communities.” Grantmaking areas of interest are art and culture, education, environment, recreation and preservation, family, and health and wellness.

This funder awards grants broadly within its areas of focus and geographic target area. It supports projects rather than general operations or other types of funding. It also requires project completion within two years. Impact SA does not support political or religious purposes, scholarships, endowments, unrestricted funds, loan payment, or marketing and advertising.

The majority of Impact SA grants are $100,000 each. The remainder of the grant pool each year is divided among five finalists that receive $10,000 each. Impact SA accepts unsolicited grant applications from local nonprofits within its annual application window. The giving circle members listen to finalist presentations in late October, vote on new grantees, and announce recipients immediately after the vote.
