OVERVIEW: J. Kevin Poorman and family conduct their philanthropy through the JKP Family Foundation, which available tax filings reveal, gave away $305,000 in 2017. Poorman has an interest in education, including Jesuit education. Other interests include the arts and health. 

BACKGROUND: John Kevin Poorman grew up in New Orleans. He received a B.S. in botany in 1974 and a J.D. in 1977 from the University of Oklahoma. Poorman was a partner at the law firm of Johnson & Swanson. He joined Hyatt Hotels in 1988 and worked for many other companies and businesses owned by interests of the extended Pritzker family. Poorman is CEO and general counsel of Pritzker Realty Group and PSP Capital’s president and CEO. 

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Poorman was once vice chair of Loyola University New Orleans board of trustees and the family has steadily supported the institution. The Poormans' daughter attended the school and the family is strongly interested in Jesuit education. Other grantees include Jesuit High School, where Poorman attended, as well as UC San Diego Foundation, Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart, and Grandfather Home for Children. The Poormans have also supported the Barack Obama Foundation.

ARTS & CULTURE: Grantees include Minnesota Center for Book ArtsMuseum of Contemporary ArtNew Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and Chicago Public Library Foundation.  

HEALTH: Poorman and family have supported Partners in Health and Foundation for Retinal Research.

LOOKING FORWARD: Apart from the Midwest and New Orleans, Southern California may also emerge as a region of giving; the couple's son resides there with his wife.
