Scott and Christie Krase

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Oak Hill Advisors, L.P.

FUNDING AREAS: Philanthropy, Education & Youth

OVERVIEW: Scott Krase founded one2one USA Foundation, whose mission is to transform the existing charity model by connecting individuals directly with those in need in a customizable, transparent and impactful way. According to available tax filings, the foundation awarded just over $15,000 in grants in 2018.

BACKGROUND: Philadelphia product Scott D. Krase graduated with a B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked at TSA Capital Management, where he was a portfolio manager responsible for global asset allocation. Krase also worked in the mergers and acquisitions departments of Gleacher & Co. and Salomon Brothers. In 1993, he helped start Oak Hill, where he is currently a Senior Advisor on the investment team.

ISSUES:

PHILANTHROPY: Krase aims to “de-institutionalize charitable giving to make it more meaningful for the donor and more effective for the donee.” To that end, he launched one2one USA Foundation, helping donors best achieve their philanthropic goals and aspirations by pairing them with individuals who could benefit the most. one2one USA partners with select organizations with the goal of better assisting and augmenting coverage for their eligible donees. Partners include Arts Council of Princeton, LIFT, Sky’s the Limit Fund, Women’s Enterprise Action Loan Fund, Broadway Youth Ensemble, and Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE).

OTHER: Scott Krase and his wife Christie Noelle Krase both graduated from UPenn, which they support. Krase is also on the board of Venture for America, fellowship program for recent college graduates who want to become startup leaders and entrepreneurs. They’ve also supported places like Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Summer Search San Francisco.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect Krase’s work in activating philanthropy to continue. What’s less clear is if the family’s giving will ramp up through a formal family foundation. Christie recently completed a master’s from Teacher’s College, so education is one area for possible deepening giving.
