Citybridge Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Citybridge Foundation supports education reform in Washington, D.C.

PROFILE: Established in 1993, the Citybridge Foundation is a private family foundation based in Washington, D.C. This is the foundation of Katherine and David Bradley. Born in D.C., David Bradley is the chairman and founder of Atlantic Media, and he previously founded two consulting companies. His wife, Katherine Bradley, is the founder and chair of the Citybridge Foundation and has served on the boards of the KIPP Foundation, Princeton University and STAND for Children. The foundation aims to "build a citywide system of high-performing schools in Washington, DC.” It funds local efforts for K-12 education.

Grants for K-12 Education

The Citybridge Foundation is the grantmaking extension of a D.C.-based nonprofit that invests in the future of Washington, D.C.’s public schools. It supports teachers and other school leaders to launch new schools and redesign existing schools. This organization has steadily supported radical shifts in school standards in the District. Over the years, the couple, through their foundation, has given millions of dollars for overhauling ineffective education systems in both public and charter schools.  Citybridge looks to find promising education entrepreneurs and new ideas for models of schools and then try them out at the local level. Accordingly, it often provides early seed capital to help emerging leaders establish business plans and create new school systems.

Past local grantees include Wider Circle, Building Bridge Across the River, City Kids Wilderness Project and DC Preparatory Academy.
