PROFILE: Established in 1992, the Albert Haller Foundation is the private grantmaking foundation of Albert Haller, who built his career in the logging industry. He set aside $8 million of his estate to be used for charitable purposes for this foundation. Haller passed away in 1992 at the age of 88 while working on the Dungeness Heights development. The founder established the foundation “to be operated exclusively for charitable or educational purposes whose activities most closely correspond with my intention as to furthering the welfare of the citizens of Clallam County.” Grantmaking interest areas prioritize education, human services, basic needs, and capital projects.

Education grants support students pursuing post-high school education. The foundation makes grants for charitable organizations in the areas of food, housing, clothing, and medical care for the poor and needy of the county. Haller also makes grants for capital projects, such as political subdivisions, to erect or maintain public works, and for recreational facilities.

Haller grants tend to range from $10,000 to $250,000. The largest grants tend to be for capital support. This foundation steadily supports the local United Way organization, as well as the local Boys and Girls Club, Olympic Peninsula YMCA, Sequim Family Advocates, and Green Alliance for Veterans.
