Dore Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Dore Foundation is a private family foundation based in the Seattle area that focuses on making a positive difference in the lives of families affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), enhancing the educational opportunities for students of achievement, and assisting the under-served in its communities.

IP TAKE: Funding is directed towards national nonprofits with preference to those organizations located or positively impacting lives in the Pacific Northwest.

PROFILE: Established in 2006, the Dore Foundation bears the name of the late Frank H. Dore, a Washington State politician, and his late wife Mary. The foundation’s current president is Frederick H. Dore, Jr. The foundation prioritizes making a positive difference in the lives of families affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), enhancing the educational opportunities for students of achievement, and assisting the under-served in its communities.

The foundation makes grants for community services and food banks, elderly care, endowments and scholarships in education, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Mary lost her fourth child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (“SIDS”) in 1961. As a result of this tragedy, she was instrumental in raising money for SIDS research and starting one of the nation's first foundations dedicated to searching for the causes of what was then called crib death.
