OVERVIEW: The Grousemont Foundation funds educational, enrichment and development opportunities for youth and children in the greater Puget Sound region. The foundation also honors the legacy of its founders and the vision of current family members through grants that enrich lives, and promote the growth and development of the community.

PROFILE: Established in 1984, the Grousemont Foundation was established Howard S. Wright, who helped steer the family’s Howard S. Wright Construction Company, whose projects included the Space Needle. The foundation continues to be run by Wright family members, including president Sally S. Wright. The Grousemont Foundation funds educational, enrichment and development opportunities for youth and children in the greater Puget Sound region. The foundation also honors the legacy of its founders and the vision of current family members through grants that enrich lives, and promote the growth and development of the community.

Grousemont annually funds in several grantmaking strategies. The foundation currently focuses on Youth and Children. Its other grant cycles in 2019 are Arts & Arts Education (spring) and Health & Wellness (fall).

Important Grant Details:

Grants range from $100 to $250,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $1.5 million. Past grantees include Rainier Scholars, Pike Place Market Foundation, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation, Seattle Opera, Sound Mental Health, The Washington Bus Education Fund, University of Washington, and Year Up - Seattle.

The foundation’s application process across all its strategies is by invitation only. With the exception of the foundation’s International Cycle, the geographic focus is generally the Puget Sound region.
