OVERVIEW: Founded in 2004, the Hendricks Family Foundation was established by billionaire Diane Hendricks, who chairs ABC Supply, one of the largest wholesale distributors of roofing, siding and windows in America. The Hendricks Family Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that are working to strengthen the family’s hometown of Beloit, Wisconsin. The foundation aims to create opportunity and inspire children. Grantmaking focuses on children and youth, education and career preparedness, economic opportunity, veterans and military families and community safety.

Rather than outlining specific program area goals for its funding, the Hendrick’s Family Foundation works flexibly to meet the needs of its target geographic area. One past project Rock Valley Community Programs, and its Housing 4 Our Vets, which provides secure, safe and sober housing along with supportive services. The foundation opened Hendricks CareerTek, operated by the Stateline Boys and Girls Club, which aims to advance career aspirations and tomorrow’s workforce. The Hendricks Family Foundation also provided start-up operating support for the Blender Cafe, a public-private collaboration for community youth. The foundation also funds an Experience Fellowship, providing up to $2,500 to empower motivated youth to follow their passions and build their skills.

Grants range from $3,500 to $600,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $1.1 million. Past grantees include the Beloit Health System Foundation, Make a Wish Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin Foundation, Blackhawk Technical College Foundation, School District of Janesville, and Beloit School District. Grantmaking focuses almost exclusively on Beloit, Wisconsin.

Grant deadlines are established each cycle based on anticipated Board Meeting dates. The process begins with an eligibility check and verification. The Hendricks Family Foundation will generally only consider requests from qualified not-for-profit, tax-exempt organizations, and will not be a source of funding for endowments.
