PROFILE: Daniel Neidich and his wife, Brooke Garber Neidich, move their philanthropy through the Daniel M. Neidich & Brooke Garber Foundation, which has given just over $1 million in grants annually in recent years. Daniel earned his B.A. from Yale University in 1972, and an MBA from Stanford University in 1974. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1978 in the real estate banking department. In 1984, he made partner and later became co-head of the merchant banking division. In 2004, Neidich founded Dune Real Estate Partners, a New York-based real estate investment firm. Brooke Garber Neidich heads the Sidney Garber jewelry collections, which was founded by her father. She is a passionate supporter of the arts in New York City and has served on the boards of trustees of the Whitney Museum and Lincoln Center. In addition to arts and culture, the foundation supports education and health, with most grants staying in the New York City area.

In addition to supporting landmark institutions like Lincoln Center and the Whitney, the Neidich Foundation has given to smaller and lesser-known arts organizations. Other past arts and culture grantees include the Tribeca Film Institute, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Creative Time, Inc. and the Public Art Fund. In education, the foundation has supported some private K-12 schools as well as out-of-school programs for underserved students. And in health, the foundation works broadly to support both large hospital systems and smaller, specialized organizations. The Mount Sinai Hospital System has received fund, as have Planned Parenthood and Eye to Eye, Inc., which works in vision care.

Grants range from a few thousand to $500,000, with an average grant size of about $10,000. Yearly giving is usually between $1 and $2 million. For additional information, see the foundations past tax filings.
