PROFILE: The Kenai Peninsula Foundation (KPF) is an affiliate of the Alaska Community Foundation (ACF) and based in Soldotna, Alaska. A grant from the Rasmuson Foundation helped establish the ACF Affiliate Program in 2008 to address the causes that are most important to local communities and inspire local philanthropy with the help of volunteer advisory boards. KPF is composed of leaders that are dedicated to building philanthropy in their region and raising funds to address community needs. The foundation funds local efforts related to young people, recreation, safety, vulnerable populations, and the elderly.

The Kenai Peninsula Foundation targets the needs of its year-around community and also the increase in summer population that arrives for the fishing runs in local rivers. This is a permanent endowment that makes grants to local nonprofit groups to serve the people who live and work in this region, as well as to offer them educational training. KPF supports both immediate needs and long-term improvements for local residents, as well as collaborative projects between local organizations. Grantees must use KPF funds within one year of receiving an award. The foundation also awards the Briggs Memorial Scholarship to local students.

Grants range between about $500 and $1,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving on the grants page of the KPF website. Grantmaking focuses on the Kenai Peninsula region of Alaska. Past local grantees include Alaska Christian College, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, and the Native Village of Tyonek.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits. The annual competitive grants cycle opens between early March and early April. KPF utilizes an online grants application system and also an online system for grant reporting. Direct general questions to the staff at kenai@alaskacf.org or 855-336-6701.
