PROFILE: Established in 2001, the Bohemian Foundation is the private foundation of Pat Stryker, and based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Pat Stryker is the granddaughter of Homer Stryker, who invented medical devices and founded the Stryker Corporation. This foundation awards grants to “local, national and global nonprofits that support various causes including supporting youth, promoting economic stability, building vibrant communities, providing opportunities and enrichment through music, promoting access to education, alleviating poverty, improving public health and strengthening democracy.”

The Bohemian Foundation has four grantmaking program areas. Community programs support youth, strengthening communities, and helping families and individuals become more economically stable. The funder also backs community-building through music, and funds music-related efforts to increase live performances of contemporary music, involve youth in music opportunities, and help musicians grow and develop. The Bohemian Foundation’s democracy program targets skilled workforce development, college affordability, early education expansion, closing income gaps, prioritizing investments in American manufacturing and production, and policy reform for jobs and healthcare. Other interests are voting rights, immigration reform, campaign finance reform, living wages, media fairness, fair elections and transparent government. Beyond Colorado, the foundation supports public health, poverty alleviation, and the environment at a global level. It also created a COVID-19 response fund to help the community address the pandemic.
