PROFILE: Established in 1962, the Buell Foundation is the foundation of Temple Hoyne Buell, based in Denver, Colorado. Buell was a local civic and business leader who established the largest architectural firm in the Rocky Mountains region. He designed over 300 buildings in Colorado and passed away at the age of 94 in 1990. The Buell Foundation “focuses primarily on the state of Colorado and concentrates its grantmaking on programs that benefit children.” It funds local early education and teen pregnancy prevention efforts.
The Buell Foundation has had various funding interests in past years, but has recommitted itself to the needs of local children and youth. The largest funding priority is programs that support children ages zero through five. Early childhood support includes preschool programs, assessments, behavioral health, capital improvements, literacy, nutrition, home visitation, parenting education and teacher development. Funded teen pregnancy prevention programs emphasize the importance of delaying sex, provide a nonjudgmental learning environment, and are inclusive of cultures, sexual orientation and gender identity. Buell provides program/project support, operating support and technical assistance for both funding areas, as well as capital support for early childhood programs.
