PROFILE: Established in 2000, the Jim Moran Foundation was founded by automotive pioneer Jim Moran. Born in 1918, Moran launched his career with the purchase of a Sinclair gas station; he served in World War II, began selling cars, and established JM Family Enterprises. However, Moran and wife Jan had already established a legacy of giving before this foundation was created. The couple made an initial contribution to start this foundation, and the JM Family and its various affiliates commit a percentage of the company’s profits, as well. The foundation invests in education, senior citizens, families, and transitional living for youths.

Grants for Youth, Higher Education, Community Development and Senior Citizens

JMF prioritizes giving to programs that serve economically disadvantaged and at-risk area residents, as well as those with medical and developmental difficulties. In its three counties of focus, JMF provides program support, but not capital support, capacity building support, health care or medical research support, scholarships to individuals, or event sponsorships.

In a recent year, the foundation gave over $15 million in total grants. Additionally, JMF offers the Jim Moran Foundation Award to acknowledge locals who give back to their community through active long-term service. Jim Moran Scholars reflects a partnership between the foundation and Florida State University to support African-American high school seniors from South Florida and North Florida. Students must prove themselves as role models, have financial challenges, and have been admitted to FSU.
