PROFILE: Established in 2007, the J. Christopher and Anne N. Reyes Foundation is a private family foundation that gives in Chicago. J. Christopher Reyes graduated from the University of Maryland and purchased a Schlitz beer distributorship in South Carolina for $740,000 with his brother, Jude, and his father. Within a year, the brothers added another outlet, in Savannah, Georgia, and then moved into Chicago in 1979. These days, Reyes Holdings, a global food and beer distribution conglomerate, consists of Reyes Beverage Group, the largest beer distributor in the U.S. The two brothers serve as co- chairs of Reyes Holdings. The foundation focuses its giving in the areas of health, arts and culture and education.

The foundation does not have a website to guide grantseekers. However, tax records indicate that the foundation is a strongly supports health. Reyes has been involved with several Chicago hospital systems; he served as president of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and has chaired the board. One year, Reyes gave Lurie Children's at least $5 million. More recently, the Lurie Children's Foundation received a $1 million gift from the couple. Reyes also served as vice chairman of MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. The foundation has given to Jupiter Medical Center Foundation and the Northwestern Memorial Foundation.

The couple also has an interest in education in Chicago. Past grants have gone to Lake Forest Academy, an independent boarding school, and Lake Forest Country Day School. Support has also gone to Reading Power and fellowships at the Accelerate Institute. The couple has helped fund the Ryan Award, "a one-year, paid fellowship providing aspiring principals with the opportunity to step back and develop a high-impact strategy and plan for creating a high-achieving urban school in the year prior to their first year as a principal."

In the area of arts and culture, funds have gone to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry.
