OVERVIEW:  The Kressel Family Foundation’s grantmaking strongly focuses on the Jewish community.

PROFILE: Established in 2003, The Kressel Family Foundation (formerly the Bertha and Henry Kressel Foundation) was founded by businessman Henry Kressel and his late wife Bertha. Henry Kressel runs the foundation with his two children, one of whom, Kim, lives in Israel and works at Nefesh B’Nefesh, a “a nonprofit organization that promotes, encourages and facilitates Aliyah from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.”

Grants for Jewish Causes

In a recent fiscal year, grants ranged from $1,000 to $200,000 to Yeshiva University.  Grantees have included Manhattan Jewish Experience, UJA Federation of New York, Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, and Yeshiva University. Kressel was Yeshiva University’s first alumnus chairman of the board. Along with his late wife Bertha, the couple established a chair in economics and research fellowships for outstanding undergraduate students at Yeshiva University.

Grants rant from $100 to $50,000; however, $100 is the most common amount. Total grantmaking in a recent year hovered around $100,000. The foundation does not appear to accept unsolicited proposals or requests for funding.
