Towerbrook Foundation

OVERVIEW:  The Towerbrook Foundation’s grantmaking supports education, global humanitarian work, health, the arts, and culture.

IP TAKE: The foundation keeps a low public profile, which limits information available on its grantmaking priorities and activities. Grantseekers will need to network with a member of the Team to get on this inaccessible funder’s radar.

PROFILE: Established in 2006, the Towerbrook Foundation was founded by Towerbrook Capital’s partners to contribute to the communities in which they live and work. The Co-CEOs of the firm Neal Moszkowski and Ramez Sousou. Neal Moszkowski is a trustee of Uncommon Schools, which starts and manages charter schools. Ramez Sousou, meanwhile, sits on the board of Habitat for Humanity International, as well as such boards as the U.S. Middle East Project and Brookings Foreign Policy Leadership Council.

While the foundation does not maintain a website or name grantmaking programs, its tax filings suggest an interest on education, global humanitarian work, health, the arts, and culture.

Grants for Community Development, Education, Health, and Arts and Culture

Towerbrook keeps a low profile, but a webpage for the foundation states that it “partners with carefully selected charities where [it] can be directly involved and where [its] investments can have a measurable impact.” The Towerbrook Foundation’s more recent grantmaking has focused on City Year, Habitat for Humanity, and Uncommon Schools. Other past grantees include Columbia University, Jewish Childcare Association, Central Park Conservancy, and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
