PROFILE: The Tull Charitable Foundation was founded by Joseph McKeehan Tull, an Atlanta businessman, in 1952. He founded the Southern Rubber and Supply Company, the precursor to the J.M. Tull Metal and Supply Company. Tull left his personal assets to the foundation after his death in 1962. The foundation was originally the charitable giving arm of the company, but that relationship ended when the company was sold in 1985. Grantmaking areas include arts and culture, education and schools, health and human services, youth development and civic improvement.
Within these focus areas, the foundation supports capital projects and start-up projects of new initiatives. However, it does not provide operating support for programs, projects or administration. The funder also does not support churches, sports booster clubs, conferences, seminars, performances, special events, political causes, research or tickets for charitable events. A majority of grants are for one year, although the funder occasionally considers multi-year support.
