OVERVIEW: The Addax & Oryx Foundation focuses its global development grants on self-sufficiency and economic growth and empowerment.
IP TAKE: This foundation gives priority funding to local, community based projects and those that incorporate one or more of its core funding themes.
PROFILE: Established in 1996, Addax & Oryx Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. Through its grantmaking, the foundation aims to “[f]ight the root causes of poverty in Africa and the Middle East,” by supporting projects focused on health, education, community development and the environment.
While Addax & Oryx does not have a dedicate global development program, it funds related grants through its community development interest area, which focuses on sustainable development centered on “[f]ood security, income-generating activities, sanitation, power generation and much more.”
The foundation tends to support small and grassroots organizations that do not have access to or the support of major governmental or agency funding. Past global development grantees include Community Action for Development, which received a grant for its project improving food production, nutrition and revenues for smallholder farmers in Bangem, Cameroon; and the Hilde Back Education Fund, which received funding for its work providing access to secondary school for underprivileged children in Kenya.
