PROFILE: Established in 1978, the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation (MNCF) is a community foundation based in North Platte, Nebraska. MNCF administers approximately 275 charitable and scholarship funds and distributes over a million dollars annually. The foundation aims to "build charitable resources to benefit the people of the North Platte area, primarily Lincoln County and the eight adjoining counties in Nebraska.” It funds local efforts for education, health, community development, culture, environment and human services.

The Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation awards many awards though its Betterment Grants program. This program supports a wide variety of nonprofit needs in the counties of Lincoln, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Logan, McPherson, Perkins and Thomas. Many grants go towards basic needs, boosting the local economy, providing quality education and keeping the area vibrant through the arts. Another program is Applegate Grants for Teachers, which awards funding to K-12 teachers in West Central Nebraska. Meanwhile, other grant funds at MNCF are agency and designated funds, community funds, deferred gift funds, donor-advised funds, operations funds and field-of-interest funds.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $100,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on the North Platte area of Nebraska in Lincoln County and the neighboring counties. Past local grantees include North Platte Public Schools, Lincoln County’s Lake Maloney Trail and Creativity Unlimited Arts Council.

This foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits. Instead, it requests that grantseekers contact the foundation staff directly to discuss a project before submitting an application for most grant opportunities.
