PROFILE: Established in 1986, the Simmons Family Foundation (SFF) is a private foundation based in Farmington, Utah. Roy W. Simmons and Elizabeth E. Simmons created this foundation, which has a board of trustees that meet each year to review grant requests. Roy Simmons was a banking pioneer with Zions First National Bank who was active in community affairs and passed away in 2006. The foundation is “committed to fostering virtues of good citizenship through religious, medical, community, art and educational purposes.”

The Simmons Family Foundation funds a broad range of local efforts related to these areas of interest. SFF only makes grants to local nonprofit organizations and is led by various members of the Simmons family. The funder awards most grants for unrestricted support. Local educational institutions, cultural groups, and children’s service providers often receive SFF grants. SFF also awards college scholarships to Davis High School students.

Past local grantees include the Green Urban Lunchbox, LDS Business College, Little Lambs Foundation for Kids, and Playworks Utah.

This foundation accepts unsolicited letters of intent from nonprofits. It does not have an online application system but accepts one-page letters of intent from organizations via email at any time of the year. SFF invites selected organizations to submit full applications by mail, which are due by August 15 each year. SFF awards annual grants each November.
