PROFILE: Established in 2003, the Cameron Foundation is a health legacy foundation based in Petersburg, Virginia. It formed upon the sale of the Southside Regional Medical Center and is named after William E. Cameron, who was a former Petersburg mayor, Virginia governor, newspaper editor and education supporter. The foundation aims to "transform the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties into a healthy, vibrant and economically vital region by strategically leveraging resources for community impact.” It funds local efforts for healthcare, human services, community and economic development, education, historical preservation and conservation and arts and culture.

The Cameron Foundation’s healthcare grantmaking focuses on access to health services, behavioral health, prevention services, health education, children’s health and K-12 health. Its human services grants support basic human needs, family and youth needs and senior support services. Community and economic development grants fund the revitalization of distressed neighborhoods, workforce development, job quality and regional economic development capacity-building.
