PROFILE: The JMT Charitable Foundation was established in 2011. It was founded by financier Jeffrey Talpins and his wife Mara. Jeffrey Talpins is the founder of Element Capital Management, an alternative investment manager. While foundation does not maintain a website, the couple active on several boards and have described some of their philanthropy. The JMT Charitable Foundation seeks to make a difference in the world through improving career opportunities for inner city children, supporting long-term prosperity for Israel, and conserving both open spaces and wildlife.

Talpins serves on the board of Harlem Children’s Zone, which the family supports. Jeffrey and Mara Talpins are on the board of American Prairie Reserve. Mara has a lifelong passion for wildlife and has been actively involved with the Wildlife Conservation Society for some two decades, first as a volunteer at the Central Park Zoo. The family’s environmental conservation giving has also supported the Everglades Foundation.

Grants range from $50 to $500,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $2.5 million. Past grantees have included UJA Federation of NY, Success Academy, NRDC, Ice Hockey in Harlem, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer, and Robin Hood Foundation.

The JMT Charitable Foundation keeps a low-profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
