PROFILE: Established in 2000, the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation (RTNF) is a private family foundation based in Lindon, Utah. Ray Noorda is known as the “father of network computing” and was the CEO of Novell Technology. Tye Noorda was a musician, writer, director, poet and songwriter. RTNF was originally known as the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation's Charitable Trust. The foundation “envisions a world where all people enjoy equal opportunities to achieve health, purpose and happiness.” RTNF funds local efforts for higher education, health, human services, environment and children and youth.

Grants for Higher Education, Public Health and Access, Environment, and Community Development

The Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation often funds children’s hospitals and other efforts that benefit Utah’s children. The funder frequently supports Utah universities through student scholarships. Through its grants, RTNF looks to alleviate suffering and provide educational support for disadvantaged people. It also funds efforts to eliminate the use of fossil fuels and explore alternative energy sources as a way of supporting the people of tomorrow.

Past local grantees include the Bicycle Collective of Salt Lake City, ScenicView Academy and Volunteers of America Utah’s Homeless Youth Resource Center.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $1 million. Grantmaking primarily focuses on Utah, but the foundation also occasionally supports organizations in other parts of the country and even internationally.
