Utah Women’s Giving Circle

OVERVIEW: The Utah Women’s Giving Circle supports various issues that affect local women and girls throughout the state of Utah.

IP TAKE: This is an active and passionate women’s giving group that takes a statewide approach to giving and awards about five to ten new grants per year.

PROFILE: Established in 2011, the Utah Women’s Giving Circle is a women’s philanthropy group affiliated with the Community Foundation of Utah. It is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. A small group of women came together to create this foundation to address issues that local women and girls face in the state. Women pay $250 for an annual membership, and girls under 18 pay $50 for an annual membership. The organization “leverages modest, individual donations into a powerful investment in projects that empower Utah women and girls.” It funds local efforts that address wage gaps, education, domestic violence, poverty, entrepreneurship, child care, and other issues that affect women and girls.

Grants for Women and Girls, Work and Economic Opportunity, Violence Prevention, and Community Development

The Utah Women’s Giving Circle awards grants to local groups once per year following annual voting. The giving circle typically funds programs rather than general operating support for organizations that focus their services on women and girls. Membership dues grantmaking is supplemented by annual sponsorships by local businesses and event sponsorships. The giving circle also has member-hosted gatherings, such as potlucks, book clubs, and other social events.

Past local grantees include the Utah Rape Recovery Center, Utah Public Radio, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake.
