Bamberger Memorial Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Bamberger Memorial Foundation funds children and youth, education, crisis care, and protective services efforts in Utah.

IP TAKE: Organizations that have not worked with Bamberger in the past may have trouble getting a foot in the door, although this is still one of the top grantmakers in Utah for groups serving children and youth.

PROFILE: Established in 1947, the Bamberger Memorial Foundation is a family foundation based in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was founded by Eleanor Bamberger and Ernest Bamberger, who were civic and humanitarian leaders who volunteered and donated to local causes. They established the foundation in memory of their children, Ruth Eleanor and John Ernest, who died early in life. The foundation is “dedicated to fulfilling the founders’ desires to help people reach their individual potential.” Bamberger funds local children and youth, education, crisis care, and protective services efforts.

Grants for K-12 Education, Higher Education, Public Health and Access, and Community Development

The Bamberger Memorial Foundation often supports secondary education efforts within the state, especially scholarships for undergraduate nurses. It also regularly funds health agencies, hospitals, schools, museums and child welfare agencies. There is also the $2,000 Ruth Eleanor Bamberger and John Ernest Bamberger Memorial Foundation Scholarship for Utah for high-achieving students who need financial assistance.

Past local grantees include the Utah AIDS Foundation, Rape Recovery Center, Adopt a Native Elder and Crossroads Urban Center.
